Let’s create awareness on World Brain Tumor Day !



Many people are not aware about Brain tumor as it is a rare type of tumor. World Brain Tumor Day helps is celebrated on June 8 every year to create awareness among the public and educate them on brain tumor. 

Causes of Brain Tumour :

There are various causes of Brain Tumor and some of them are Hereditary, exposure to radiations, It is said that increased use of cell phone may lead to brain tumor and others. 
There are two basic kinds of brain tumours – primary brain tumours and metastatic brain tumours.

Primary brain tumours- Primary brain tumor normally originates from the brains or tissues close to it. There are two types of primary brain tumor those are Benign and Malignant Tumors. 

Metastatic brain tumours- Metastatic brain tumours start as cancer from any part of the body and finally spreads to the brain. It is commonly found in lung, breast, bowel or skin. 

Some of the common symptoms that one should look out for are Headaches(Most common symptom of Tumor), loss of sensation, movement loss, blood clot, vision loss, depression, fatigue, hormone, gland changes, personality changes.

Treatment :

Normally the main treatment of any type of cancer is surgery, the affected tissue is removed but with brain tumor, it is not possible to remove the entire tissue and so Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy is done. 



Key Notes about Brain Tumor :

The most common brain tumors are the cancers from other parts of the body (e.g. lung, breast, colon or prostate) that spreads to the brain.
Primary brain tumors originate in the brain and about 126 such tumors listed by WHO.
Glioma is the most common primary brain tumour and it originates from supporting brain cells that are called glial cells. Almost 50% of all brain tumors begin as benign tumors.
Another brain tumour called 'Astrocytomas’ is named so because their cells look like stars; the word ‘astro’ in Latin means "star".
A primary brain tumour usually is restricted to brain and does not spread to other organs. If brain death occurs in these patients, it is possible to donate their organs.
 Common symptoms of a brain tumor include headaches, seizures, personality changes, eye weakness, nausea or vomiting, speech disturbances and memory loss.
The survival from brain tumor at five years is approximately 30%.

Smoking Kills!






Smoking is a worldwide hazard. It is preventable and a an avoidable health risk. World No Tobacco Day is observed on 31 May and was initiated in 1987 to grab attention of the smokers across the globe. The World Health Assembly passed a resolution WHA42.19 in 1988 declaring World No Tobacco Day to be observed on 31 May every year and is making news headlines for today. The main motto of this day is to make people aware of the ill effects and danger of consuming tobacco. In spite of creating awareness about danger of tobacco, it is estimated that the quarter of world population is consuming Tobacco in some form or the other. Tobacco has almost 4,000 chemicals present in it, 200 of them are poisonous and 60 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer.


Facts and Figures
According to report by Canada Toronto University, in the past 17 years, consumption of Tobacco has increased in India by 36 %. In 1998, approximately 7cr 90 lakh people were consuming tobacco in some form or other. The latest news update is that the usage of tobacco is rising at a fast pace. In 2015, more than 10cr 80 lakh people across consume tobacco in India. But latest news is that today, more than 12 crore people are in the category.Out of which 6 cr 90 lakh people smoke cigarette and 6 cr 10 lakh people smoke bidi.
Going by the reports of 2015, in villages the intake of tobacco has risen by 26% and in cities has increased by 68%. In villages more than 3.1 crore people are consume tobacco and in cities it is 7.7 crores.
Rules and Regulations
Highlighting a few rules and regulations,the latest news headlines in India is that Delhi Government is punishing people smoking in public places with a fine of Rs 1000. Not just that if anyone is found purchasing or selling any tobacco related products, the person will be fined Rs 4500. If these stringent rules are applied across India, we would live a healthy life. To prevent the usage of tobacco, many countries have started news app related to tobacco for creating awareness.

*There are 1.1 billion tobacco users in the world. This number is expected to increase to 1.6 billion plus in the next two decades.
*Tobacco intake is one of the risk factor for six of the eight leading causes of the death across the world.
*Tobacco Industry Revenue was approx 664 Billion Dollars in 2010.
