ISRO’s ‘IRNSS-1G’ navigational satellite successfully launched
Indian
navigational system will see new heights as ISRO has successfully launched the
seventh and the last in the series of the consellation of Regional Navigation
Satellite System. ISRO sent IRNSS-1F- Indian Regional Navigation Satellite
System 1G into space on board a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The
rocket took off to orbit from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) at
Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. This system aims at developing an independent
regional navigation satellite system for India.
The
satellite can provide service for a period of 12 years.
The PSLV
rocket is a four engine rocket powered by solid and liquid fuel alternatively.
ISRO had
launched the seventh navigation satellite, other six being IRNSS-1F, IRNSS-1A,
IRNSS-1B, IRNSS-1C, IRNSS-1D and IRNSS-1E.
The 44.4
metre tall IRNSS-1G has a lift-off mass of 1,.425 kg.
According
to ISRO officials, the total cost of all the seven satellites was Rs 1,420
crore.
